Weird Tales is the original fantasy pulp. It initially ran from 1923 until the September, 1954 issue. In the summer of 1973 it was resurrected and ran for one year. It was again resurrected in 1981and was published until 1994. In 1994 the rights to the title were temporarily lost and publication was continued for two years until 1996 as Worlds of Fantasy and Horror. In 1998 it was once again resurrected and continues to be published until today. In 1999 the publishers introduced an anthology issue titled Weird Tales Library.

The Canadian edition, published from 1935 until 1936 and resurrected again from 1942 until 1951 were mostly identical to the US edition. During the period of 1942 until 1948 it often featured different original artwork and incorporated stories from magazines other than the US edition.

The British edition saw four incarnations. The first in 1942 was published for three issues. The second for a single issue in 1946. The third and fourth lasted for a total of 28 issues, with the first few months of each run overlapping as they were from two different publishers. The UK edition ceased publication on July, 1954.
