"You don't respect those people very much, because you're young and arrogant. But I don't respect them very much either, because I'm old and wise."

New Worlds is considered to be the most influential British SF publication. It began in 1946 and there were actually two Volume 1, Number 1 covers, with the second being a modified version of the 2nd issue's cover, but with the date and number information left blank. Presumably there was a greater demand for the first issue than was originally printed. New Worlds was published until 1971. In 1971 anthology editions were released in both Britian and the US under the New Worlds Quarterly title. In 1974 the title was again New Worlds until 1978. It was again resurrected as a paperback title in 1991.

A Canadian reprint edition was published from 1954 until 1956.

A New Zealand reprint edition was published from 1954 until 1964.

A US reprint edition was published for five issues in 1960.
