Prisoner Debuts Tonight

Hmmm. I’ll be giving my take on this tomorrow and am very interested to see how it goes tonight.

As most of you know, I’m generally not in favor of do-overs (not in chess, not in checkers, not for tv and not for movies; maybe, sometimes, if I’m playing a not-serious game of Candyland).

I have, on the other hand, been very pleased with AMCTV’s handling of the general concept. They’ve not tried to bury the original, have, in fact, embraced it.

This is either a very calculated and cynical attempt to quell fan criticism before they get their first set of ratings, or it is a sign of just how much confidence they have in the new property.

I can say at this point in time that I was originally fairly excited as they were saying all of the right things. Having now seen more and more reveal from snippets and clips, I must say that I have begun to lower my expectations, as it appears that the new version is departing from the psychological in favor of the physical.

For die hard fans of Number 6, this is not a good omen.

  1. Looking forward to your comments. I sat through the two back-to-back episodes, and found my early enthusiasm flagging. How hard is it to do a quality show? Apparently pretty damn hard.
