Bad Covers, Bad Titles and Bad Taste

Orbit is doing this promotional thing – find the WORST out there and they’ll design a REALLY BAD SF cover for it.

IO9 gleefully picks up on the thread and offers up a selection of what they consider to be REALLY BAD COVERS.

Too bad the exercise really disses some fine books by some fine authors and maybe even some fine art by some fine artists.

Phil Farmer, Michael Moorcock, John Brunner, Henry Kuttner, Harry Harrison (who’s Bill, The Galactic Hero has been continuously in print since first published – yeah, MUST be a really bad book…)

Orbit didn’t even print examples of bad – they just put together a truly atrocious color scheme for a text only example.

I know IO9 is in the business of creating crowds to watch the car wreck, but…

they win the prize for BAD TASTE today.

  1. Actually, if you’ll notice we went out of our way to not specifically mention any one particular cover or author. One man’s whipping post is another man’s favorite author. You should see the comments we HAVEN’T been approving. We want to have some fun, but not be nasty. So i don’t see how we’re guilty of bad taste. Io9 is on its own.

  2. Are you kidding me? The names of the authors are on the covers!
If you wanted to play it safe, you should have just reproed Orbit’s offering.
Who do you think you’re kidding?
