I Owe Seven Links, I Owe Eight Links, I Owe Nine Links…
This morning I was goolerted to IO9’s coverage (yesterday) of David Barnett’s great piece in the Guardian -
FROM ALMOST A WEEK AGO.
LAST week, a lot of us were talking about it, prompted by Damien G. Walter’s entry in his blog. The one that brought it to our attention.
Gosh gee willickers, I even linked to both the Guardian and to Damien.
This kind of thing makes one wonder: is it possible that the staff at IO9 is so unconnected from the rest of the genre blogosphere that they just didn’t see this commentary?
Did it really take their staffer a WEEK to get around to reading his Guardian?
(A little research – like clicking on Barnett’s name – would have revealed that he is the author of Angleglass, not just a ‘reporter’)
Logically (and since I’m a science fiction fan, I’m at least a little familiar with logic) either one or both of the above are true OR -
IO9 just chooses to ignore the fact that other people are involved in writing about and commenting on this stuff.
A little research would help, dontchya think? A little link love now and then would be nice.
I’m sure it wasn’t intentional. Not at all. Just one of those oversite things – busy people dropping the ball, harried reporters trying to meet deadline. So many blogs to mine and so little time…

Thanks for the mention! I did try to be as dispassionate about the piece as possible and open the subject up for debate, but for some reason some SF sites seem to think I’m “siding” with the lit-fic point of view on this… nice of you to point out that I do have genre credentials!
Thanks David!
Wow. Links really work…
Ah, don’t kid yourself. IO9 has nothing to do with SF/F fandom, esp not the literary aspect. They very rarely (if ever) cover the books/magazines, and when they do it’s not connected to fandom at all.
They’re all about television shows, comics and movies. And usually they’re promoting shows/movies that are terrible, so it makes me wonder if they’re getting a kickback.
