THE RIM WORLDS

This section of the site is devoted to the Rim Worlds and all the characters that appear there. This includes, in particular one John Grimes, currently the Astronautical Superintendent of the Rim Runners Incorporated shipping line (the Rim Worlds Confederacy's 'national' shipping line) and a Commodore of the R.W.C. Naval Reserve.

He was last seen in the company of one Kitty Kelly, star human-interest reporter of the galactically distributed Bronson Star newspaper, regaling her and her readers with tales of his interesting, much-varied and sometimes X-rated career.

We learn about the Rim Worlds through the eyes of Commodore Grimes and several other recurring characters - Derek Calver, who makes his way to the Rim shortly after Grimes' arrival and who's career is as bumpy and interesting, the Empress Irene, who inhabits an alternate-reality version of the galaxy but who nevertheless contrives to pay a couple of visits on Grimes, Sonya Verril, who as a member of the Federation Survey Service's Intelligence Branch once tried to kidnap Derek Calver and later married John Grimes, Drongo Kane, one of Grimes' arch-rivals, Frank Delamere another, less effective rival, Princes Marlene von Stolzberg with whom Grimes fathered the first child to be born on El Dorado in a generation - and many others too numerous to mention here.

The Rim Worlds stories are as much about the place as they are about the people that inhabit it. Cold, dark and forlorn, the worlds on the edge of the galaxy are mankind's last, and perhaps most mysterious, frontier.

The information found here relates to the characters, history and makeup of the Rim Worlds, the galaxy where they are found (most likely but not necessarily our own) and my speculations on various aspects of it. Those speculations and ruminations are:

Before Operating the Manschenn Drive - read this. A reproduction of instructions supposedly found in the engineering room (interstellar drive) aboard Faraway Quest.

The Rim Worlds Galaxy - a continually updated piece that attempts to give a good, overall feel to the place

John Grimes - information relating to this character's career

John Grimes' Saga - A summary of the plot of each Grimes tale (as well as related ones), pressented in the order of their occurrence. SPOILER WARNING.

John Grimes Images - Some artist's renderings of what our erstwhile hero might look like.

Traveling to the Rim - an 'arrivals and departures' board for space travelers

Rim Worlds Map - a graphic of the known worlds in the Rim Worlds galaxy and the tramlines between them.

Rim World Imagery - some graphical renderings of various images seen in the stories

Story Summaries - quick and dirty summaries of the stories entered into the Concordance so far - these will be refined, rewritten and edited when the Concordance is completed. For now, I use them as place-keepers to make sure I don't forget important plot elements

The Rim Worlds Canon - a listing of all of the known stories that take place in the Rim Worlds Universe, including stories that are antecedents, some that are only tangentially related and some that are claimed to be Rim Worlds stories by others but not yet verified.

John Grimes Story Order - a sequential listing of the known John Grimes Rim Worlds stories by internal history and by order of publication

Fictional Immortality on the Internet - an article about the short story Hall of Fame

Rim Worlds Alternate Realities - a graphical representation of the various universes created by Chandler and their relationships to each other

Rim Worlds History - an outline of the alternate time line that leads to the colonization of the Rim Worlds. I use notes from Chandler's non-fiction, the Rim Worlds stories as well as several non-Rim Worlds stories to construct what I hope is a somewhat believable alternate history.

Stars of the Rim Worlds - a table containing data regarding the stars mentioned in the works.

Known Stars Map - a 2D graphic showing the relative relationship of the stars listed in the table.
