CONCORDANCE
REFERENCE MATERIALS
The
following pages have been prepared to make it relatively easy
to look up the various codes I've created, sources and other
references used in creating the Concordance.
Story
Codes
are five character codes unique to each individual Chandler
story title. For example, The Broken Cycle's code is BRKCY.
In the Page Index, each story's code is listed first, followed
by the pages within that story where the reference can be found.
Publication
Codes
are five character codes unique to each individual publication
that a Chandler story appears in - collections, anthologies
and periodicals. For example, the Chandler collection The Rim
Gods has the code RIMGD. In cases where the publication is a
novel, the code will always be NOVEL and in cases where the
publication is a collection, the code will always be COLLE.
In
the final version of the Concordance, each story entered will
be accompanied by a combined story and publication code which
can be used to reference not only the title, but the source
of the title. So, for example, the code RIMGDCOLLE would refer
to the entire The Rim Gods collection of stories, where as the
code RIMGDRIMGD would refer to the short story The Rim Gods,
found within the collection also entitled The Rim Gods. Had
I entered the version of the story printed in Galaxy magazine,
the entry would have been RIMGDGALAX. In this way, each appearance
of a story can be given a unique code for reference purposes.
UPDATE:
Story Codes and Publication Codes have now been updated into
their final form.
Work
Progress
contains an updated tally of the stories which have been entered
into the database and that can be found in the Concordance indexes.
As a story is completed, this page will be updated. This page
also contains the publication data for the specific version
of the story used for data entry purposes. If you want to check
references, you'll need to refer to this list.
This section has recently had data entry statistics added to
it.
Site
Updates contains major changes, edits and additions
to the site (as opposed to changes and updates to the Concordance
itself). If you've been here before and only want to see what
has changed, check this page.
Sources
contains the reference materials used in putting all of this
information together. I've not footnoted things yet - please
be patient.
Subject
Categories
lists the general organizational categories I've created for
the Concordance and provides a definition of the contents of
each category.
Concordance
Organization is my attempt to explain what the Concordance
is and how it is being put together.
